Fantasy Insight-Pocono
By Dennis Michelsen
It has been confirmed that Pocono will be back in 2008
with two races as usual. While this place is a great challenge
for the drivers the show on television is average at best.
Sure we have had some great finishes but we have also
had gas mileage specials too. Heading into week twenty-one
of the NASCAR schedule this is one race that could be
make or break for a few times trying to make it to the
NASCAR playoffs. The Chase for the Championship has changed
the dynamic in how you look at some race teams chances
when it comes to Fantasy race handicapping. The guys that
are solidly in the chase might roll the dice to win the
race knowing that the 10 point bonus will give them a
better chance come playoff time. But the guys on the bubble
know they need another solid top 20 finish to make sure
they will even be in the playoffs! Qualifying is also
a key at Pocono and trying to figure out who has the best
shot on Friday is often a challenge. Weather can also
be a challenge at Pocono. Certain drivers race better
in hot and slick conditions while others are better on
cooler days with more grip in the track. Even though the
calendar says "August" the weather maps do not!
According to www.raceweather.net expect comfortable temperatures
in the upper 70s with a chance of showers. Good luck with
your handicapping this week!

Racing by the Numbers
My unique Power Ratings are back and better than ever
for 2007! Combining the three most important factors the
numbers never lie. Separate the pretenders from the contenders
each week with track type, horses for courses, and consistency
factored into one easy to use Power Rating. The key numbers
to remember are 80 and 250. A rating of 80 is an acceptable
risk for any of the individual ratings and 250 is the
cut off for the complete Power Rating. Drivers topping
these minimums have a much higher percentage of top ten
finishes over the past three seasons! (Only drivers meeting
the minimum will be shown in the individual ratings with
the top 25 for Power Ratings shown)
