Ringers Versus Regulars
Fantasy Insight-Infineon
By Dennis Michelsen
Every year the fantasy handicapper is presented with a dilemma. Do I pick the usual NASCAR stars or the road course ringers? While the road course guys would kick butt in equal equipment, they are usually driving for teams that have issues or are part timers at the Cup level. Either formula is not usually conducive to success at the Nextel Cup level. This week the best of the road ringers are Patrick Carpentier, Ron Fellows, and Marc Goosens. All three drivers have decent rides and get around Watkins Glen fast. But since none of those guys are driving with a top-notch team I picked against them this week. All three of my picks easily outrank the road course ringers! So when you get ready to make out your fantasy race lineup this week, consider the road course ringers but pay close attention to the rides they are with.

Fast Facts of the Week Presented by www.nascapper.com
PJ Jones (00), Patrick Carpentier (10), Brian Simo (37), Klaus Graf (49), Terry Labonte (55), Ron Fellows (96), and Regan Smith (01) are making starts this week.

Expect Boris and (60) and Marcos Ambrose (77) to also attempt the race

Jeff Gordon (4) has the most wins at Watkins Glen

Mark Martin has the most career poles, top fives, and top ten finishes here

33% of the races have been won from the pole

63% of the races have been won from a top five starting position

18th is the worst starting position ever to win here

Fantasy Racing by the Numbers
My unique Power Ratings are back and better than ever for 2007! Combining the three most important factors the numbers never lie. Separate the pretenders from the contenders each week with track type, horses for courses, and consistency factored into one easy to use Power Rating. The key numbers to remember are 80 and 250. A rating of 80 is an acceptable risk for any of the individual ratings and 250 is the cut off for the complete Power Rating. Drivers topping these minimums have a much higher percentage of top ten finishes over the past three seasons! (Only drivers meeting the minimum will be shown in the individual ratings with the top 25 for Power Ratings shown)
