Thin Fields Courtesy of the Busch Whackers
California Speedway Spring Race
By Dennis Michelsen

Who cares if they Busch Whack? I have heard that question time and time again in the past year since the Bye Bye Busch Whackers feature made its debut. As long as the races are exciting who cares is often added to the mix. Well the races are not as exciting as the Busch series used to be and we are also not developing new drivers for the Nextel Cup series either. Back in the day when provisional starting positions were not given to guys in the top twenty-five in Cup points, the Busch regulars could fight the Cup teams for sponsors. Now some of the best Busch teams have gone by the wayside a victim of the Busch Whacking craze. Many have consolidated in order to survive and many also have given in and put a Cup driver in the seat! Now we get to see another results of Busch Whacking, thin fields. This is the second race of the season and the fourth best purse of the year, yet only 41 cars showed up. Can you imagine how bad this problem will get at races later in the season with smaller purses? ESPN will not like this development but they should have seen it coming!

Bye Bye Busch Whackers Top Ten
