Rookie of the Year Deserves a Chance
Bye Bye Busch Whackers-Talladega-Race 10

By Dennis Michelsen
The best illustration for how strange this Bush Whacking phenomenon is to look at the career of Danny O'Quinn over the last 12 months. Last year at this time O'Quinn was riding high with his new Busch ride with Roush Racing and life was good. There was already talk of Roush Racing being unhappy about Todd Kluever's chances to take over the No. 6 Cup ride in 2007. While David Ragan had much more speedway experience than O'Quinn and therefore was the more likely replacement, Danny was at least in the equation. The season ended with Danny O'Quinn showing the kind of patience, maturity, and consistency that any owner would like to see in a driver! O'Quinn would go on to win the rookie of the year title in the Busch series. Ragan got the promotion to Cup but the future looked good for Danny O'Quinn too. But sponsor demanded more Cup drivers in the Busch cars and O'Quinn was left on the outside looking in. In his first race with Roush Racing this season Danny O'Quinn finished 11th, 3rd best among the Busch guys. Last year's rookie of the year deserves a full time ride at Roush Racing!
