Firecracker
400
Making the Grade-Daytona
By Dennis Michelsen
Adding lights to Daytona has made this Fourth of July
classic much easier on the fans, teams, and drivers! Its
too bad NASCAR doesn't respect some traditions more by
keeping this race named the Firecracker 400! Let's go
to the grade books!
Nextel
Cup- Daytona
1. Jamie McMurray
2. Kyle Busch
3. Kurt Busch
4. Carl Edwards
5. Jeff Gordon
6. Greg Biffle
7. Clint Bowyer
8. Matt Kenseth
9. Kasey Kahne
10. Jimmie Johnson
F
for Kevin James
Usually my grades are reserved for drivers, team
members, or someone involved with the race coverage. But
this week I will change from tradition due to one of the
most pathetic displays in NASCAR history! When you give
the command to start engines it is a great idea NOT to
act like a completely drunk moron!
D
for NASCAR's Lack of Rescheduling Qualifying
When so many teams make a commitment in time and
money to be at the track they deserve every chance to
get a chance to qualify for the race. Qualifying was scheduled
for 4pm ET in the summer in Daytona, which is about the
most ridiculous time to schedule anything in Florida in
the summer. But not having qualifying on Saturday when
there was NOTHING on the schedule between the Busch race
in the morning and the Cup race at night is idiotic!
C
for Kenny Wallace
Finishing twenty-fifth when you bring a car to the
race in qualifying trim is not a bad finish at all. This
team has shown great heart all season long and deserves
a lot of credit for competing against all of the odds!
B
for Kyle Busch
Kyle is showing everyone why he should be the driver in
the most demand during Silly Season. Rick Hendrick has
made very few mistakes in NASCAR but letting Kyle Busch
go might turn out to be a mistake that will cost him a
few championships. If Kyle ever matures to the point where
he can harness that great talent the sky is the limit!
A
for Jamie McMurray
Pairing Jamie up with Crew Chief Larry Carter is turning
out to be one of the smartest moves made at Roush Racing
in a long time. McMurray flat out drove the wheels off
of that car and Larry Carter had it set up to drive better
than everyone else when the Goody was off the Goodyears!
