Lost
Traditions
Making the Grade-California Speedway 2
By Dennis Michelsen
Who is the idiot that chose this weekend for a race in
Southern California? Not only do we take away the traditional
Southern 500 but also the race is moved to a location
even more uncomfortable this time of the year than Darlington.
Can't the powers that be put up some sort of barrier to
block the sun in turn three too? It is not as if the sun
is in a different part of the sky in September from year
to year!

F
for NASCAR and ESPN
Scheduling a race in the interior of Southern California
on Labor Day weekend is a joke! The air quality is awful,
the sun is dangerous for the drivers to deal with, and
the heat is intense. Throw in a lousy job by ESPN on the
broadcast and no wonder ratings are in a free-fall!
D
for Michael Waltrip
After coming out of the infield care center after
his crash Michael said that sometimes when a tire is smoking
the problem goes away on its own. While that is true on
some occasions, more often than not the smoke ends when
the crash begins!
C
for Ryan Newman
Ryan had a strong run going until his engine blew. This
team has made a great comeback after an awful start and
will win one before the season is over!
B
for Brian Vickers
OK so he wasn't in contention for the win at any time
on Sunday evening but this team deserves some love for
a strong eighth place finish. If the engine issue at Toyota
in the Cup series gets fixed with Gibbs Racing joining
the brand, Brian Vickers could surprise people next season!
A
for Jimmie Johnson
Is there anyone more boring in a post race press conference
than Jimmie Johnson? Not only does he take the title for
current NASCAR but I can't imagine a more boring interview
after a win ever! But this team is back to winning form
just in time for the Chase to defend their Championship.
