Thorn
Ready for Back-to-Back Races
(For Immediate Release)
West
Bend, WI (May 9, 2007)- After spending the first two months
of the season racing every 3-4 weeks, now the ASA Late
Model Series Challenge Division revs the season up with
back to back racing weekends in the Hawkeye state. The
first race of the dynamic duo is Saturday at Hawkeye Downs
in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Derek Thorn heads to Iowa leading
the Pat Bourdow Rookie of the Year points' standings and
is fourth in the Championship chase. Derek has never raced
at either track but has a secret weapon in teammate Kris
Stump, the track record holder at Hawkeye Downs for ASA
Late Model Series cars. "Kris can wheel a car and
is great at explaining what line and setup has worked
the best for him in the past," said Derek Thorn.
"These cars that 5K Motorsports gives us are the
fastest things around!" The second race of the combo
will be at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa next week. "Back
to back races make you think twice about making a move
you might regret, " said Thorn. "Of course sitting
here in the shop I can tell you I might be less aggressive
but when you get that wheel in your hand it is always
different."

Derek's Teammate Kris Stump
"Two years ago I went fourteen races without replacing
more than one part," said a dejected Kris Stump after
crashing on lap sixty-four of the Glass Breaker 200 at
Toledo Speedway last Saturday night. This talented driver
from Tipp City, OH was hoping for some better luck in
front of the home state fans. After finishing fourth in
the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division last season,
Kris had high hopes with his new team. But a series of
problems and bad luck have cursed this team with three
disappointing finishes in a row. Look for Kris Stump to
bounce back strong as the cars and stars of the Challenge
Division invade Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA in two
weeks.
Derek's
Teammate Alex Kennedy
Next week at O'Reilly Raceway Park just outside of Indianapolis
rookie driver Alex Kennedy will make his debut for 5K
Motorsports. This fifteen year old out of Aztec, NM has
teamed up with 5K Motorsports for 2007 with Crew Chief
Paul "Rollie" Christman all season. Challenge
Division driver Derek Thorn will be along to help Alex
adjust to this new level of racing. Alex will be representing
"Dream Factory Inc" all season after being named
a National Ambassador by the organization last month.
