Murphy's
Law Meets 5K at Berlin Raceway
(For Immediate Release)
West
Bend, WI (June 18, 2007)- No matter how hard a team works
during the year at one time or another during a long season
a race comes along where nothing seems to go right. 5K
Motorsports has been consistently fast all season with
their talented trio of drivers often at the top of the
speed charts in the ASA Late Model Series Challenge and
Northern Divisions. But last weekend at Berlin Raceway
nothing seemed to go right for either veteran driver Kris
Stump or Pat Bourdow Rookie of the Year leader Derek Thorn.
A crash during practice would lead to a long night of
repairing the No. 15 of Kris Stump. After just fifty laps
in the Tradition 200 on Saturday night the handling on
Derek Thorn's car would go away while Kris Stump's car
showed the ill effects of the practice crash right from
the start. Driving a car that handles great is hard enough,
but putting up with an ill handling car can test the driver's
ability more than anything else! Both drivers got up on
the wheel and managed to bring the cars home in one piece.
Sometimes in racing Murphy's Law comes to visit and a
team is left with settling for whatever you can get out
of the night. Derek Thorn and Kris Stump were disappointed
with the result on Saturday night coming home 15th and
18th but not in their team's effort to never give up!
Next up for 5K Motorsports is a trip north of the border
to compete in the Canada 200 at Cayuga Speedway Park on
June 30th.

Derek
Thorn
This twenty one year old from Lakeport, California raced
his way out of the obscurity of the bullrings of Northern
California to get his ASALMS career off to a fast start.
So far this season Derek has collected a win at Nashville
and three top fives finishes in five starts. Derek leads
the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year Standings,
and is second in championship points. "You're turning
all the time and have to really work the car the whole
lap," said Derek Thorn when asked about Berlin Raceway."
I thought we would end up with a top ten car but after
about fifty laps the car was wicked loose. Everything
we tried to do to fix it only made it worse so something
might have broke." Next up for this talented young
driver is Cayuga Speedway Park on June 30th. "We
will take Berlin Raceway in stride and bounce back with
a strong performance up in Canada," said Thorn. "You
can bet on that from 5K Motorsports!"
Kris
Stump
Veteran driver Kris Stump joins 5K Motorsports for 2007
after a successful run with Allen-Hock Motorsports. His
fifth place finish last season in the Challenge Division
standings included four top five finishes. This twenty-seven
year old from Tipp City, Ohio is a threat to win at any
track big or small. Kris has suffered through a miserable
2007 season and was looking forward to Berlin Raceway,
another track he has had success at in the past. "We
had a wreck in practice on Friday and we were lucky just
to get the car to work at all," said a frustrated
Kris Stump. "When we set these cars up we adjust
things within a hundredth of an inch," said Stump.
"After the crash you bend stuff up real bad. It was
like trying to put a band-aid on a gunshot wound but we
battled hard and we finally got the car decent at the
end." Next up fro Kris Stump is the Canada 200 on
June 30th at historic Cayuga Speedway Park.
