Call Steals Win From Thorn
(For Immediate Release)
West
Bend, WI (July 25, 2007)- Sometimes in sports you lose
just one close call and it can cost you a win. Such was
the case at the Radfest/Race Against Drugs 200 at the
Motor Mile Speedway last Saturday night. Lakeport California's
Derek Thorn made an aggressive move past leader Peter
Cozzolino heading to the checkered flag. As the leader
spun after contact, Thorn took the win and headed to Victory
Lane for the second time this season. After a victory
speech, celebratory photos with his team, and passing
post race inspection Derek left the track that night thinking
he was the winner! But after the fans had all gone away
and the teams were pulling out and heading for home the
call was made to penalize Derek Thorn for rough driving.
"We got a call when we were around Chicago on the
way home from the track," said Thorn. "That
was very frustrating!" 5K Motorsports has been in
the hunt for the win at most of the Challenge races this
season despite this being the first year fielding a team
full time for Derek Thorn. Next up for Derek is the Crate
American Race 200 at the famous Bristol Motor Speedway
on August 4th. "When I look back a year ago I didn't
think I would be running ASA Late Models. Now to go to
Bristol Motor Speedway in a few weeks is beyond where
I imagined I would be a year ago!"
Meet
Derek Thorn
This twenty one year old from Lakeport, California raced
his way out of the obscurity of the bullrings of Northern
California to get his ASALMS career off to a fast start.
So far this season Derek has collected a win at Nashville
and three top fives finishes in seven starts. Derek leads
the Pat Bourdow Memorial Rookie of the Year Standings.
Meet
Derek's Teammate Kris Stump
Veteran driver Kris Stump joins 5K Motorsports for 2007
after a successful run with Allen-Hock Motorsports. His
fifth place finish last season in the Challenge Division
standings included four top five finishes. This twenty-seven
year old from Tipp City, Ohio is a threat to win at any
track big or small.
