The
most amazing development in racing to me is not so much the youth
movement but rather how smooth and consistent these young drivers
are nowadays. Just a few years ago when a young guy would show
up at a 100-lap event for the first time he would be lightning
fast for the first 20-30 laps but then burn off his tires and
fade. When a young driver shows consistency lap after lap and
also takes care of his equipment it stands out. Earlier this spring
I covered an ASA Late Model event from Hickory Motor Speedway.
This is one tough track that developed many NASCAR stars and was
a regular fixture on the Winston Cup circuit back in the day.
Finishing third in that event was sixteen-year-old James Buescher
from Plano, Texas. This is one "Star of Tomorrow" that
you will see racing in NASCAR in a few years.
"I
tried soccer, baseball, and hockey but those sports were boring.
Racing is a lot more work but it is also a lot more fun,"
said an energetic James Buescher. Buescher has only been racing
for four seasons and yet has many awards in his trophy case and
a great ride in an ASA Late Model Car this season driving for
Turner Motorsports. James was racing the Turner's daughter in
Legend's cars when a mechanical breakdown sent him to the Turners
to ask for help. Not only did he get help for that race borrowing
her backup car, but Turner Motorsports put him in a Late Model
stock car too! In his first year of action in the tough ASA Late
Model Series Southern Division James is second in points to fellow
rookie Bo Miller. Although that first win has yet to come, look
for James Buescher in victory lane real soon!

James
Buescher grew up watching NASCAR events every Sunday with his
Dad. His favorite driver was Rusty Wallace but he has now adopted
Kasey Kahne as his current driver. James' driving style is silky
smooth and he knows how to take care of his tires for the longer
ASA Late Model events. "After you run Pensacola you learn
to save your tires real fast," said Buescher. In addition
to campaigning in the ASA Late Model Series Southern Division
again through the rest of the season, they also plan to add a
few Challenge events later this year and next season. "Our
goal is to get to NASCAR as fast as we can but only if we can
be competitive," said Buescher. While he is a strong student
in the classroom he has put college plans on hold and might home
school next season too. Look for James to compete in the "Snowflake
Derby" again in the off-season and maybe the "Snowball
Derby" too. If he continues to develop at this rate it won't
be long until you see James Buescher competing in NASCAR events.
This is one rising star from Texas that is sure to be a "Star
of Tomorrow" to keep an eye on for sure!
